Mandalay punishes 36 city workers in 4 years

Naypyitaw (Myanmar) Sept 19: The Mandalay City Development Committee has punished 36 staff members over the past four years, as reforms are continuously being initiated to improve the delivery of basic public services, a member of the MCDC said.
Of the 36, nine were dismissed, 17 were removed from their posts, and 10 were suspended, U Kyaw San Myint said.
Last year, 15 city employees were punished, including senior officials, he added.
"In terms of reforms, the participation of employees is important. If employees fully participate in reforms and development work led by the mayor, the reform process will be successful," he said.
The MCDC is carrying out infrastructure projects in the city, including the rehabilitation and upgrade of roads to ease traffic congestion. It is also computerising its system in a bid to become a fully integrated Smart City.
